Steps To Properly Breed An English Labrador

By Amy Hayes

The Labrador is a type of retriever dog. The Labrador is considered to be one of the most beautiful pups around the world and the most popular breed. They are trained to aid the blind, people who already have autism where they act as a therapy, or to perform detection and screening work for law enforcement agencies. Sometimes, they are used for hunting and sporting. They are registered in three different colors which is black, yellow and chocolate. When it concerns with English labrador breeders, individuals must choose the right kind of breed that can suit their needs.

Many people wanted to become breeders. They pick a certain type of species and breed them to sell to potential customers. Being a breeder is tough and requires certain knowledge and techniques to become successful. They should follow strict rules and regulations so customers will not be disappointed with the species.

Breeding the dogs is not easy. Strict protocol should be implemented. Only breed the female between eight months and eight years of age. The females are not able to breed unless they are mature enough. During the time, they will experience the first heat cycle. This is the perfect time where the fertility cycle of the dogs is able to get pregnant. Never mate the female with a male that is older than twelve months.

Most common hereditary medical problems may include progressive retinal atrophy, a condition that may cause blindness. Joint problems like the elbow and hip dysplasia, cancer and many more. Even though you are not aware if the pup has medical issues, having it screened would be the answer.

Breed the canines in a private and secluded location. Never allow more than two people to be present. The mating process will depend upon the comfortable they feel with each other. While waiting for them to mate, let them feel comfortable. Never yell or speak loudly to the point that they feel upset which will prolong the procedure.

Purchase a large whelping box. The large whelping box is where the female will give birth to their young and nurse them. The female mother must spend the first three weeks with her puppies after giving birth. After that, they can be transferred in to a similar enclosure or cages.

Never hide anything and talk to the vet if the female pup has complications during their first pregnancy. They will make assessments and evaluate the risk for future pregnancies which can include additional failed pregnancies and life threatening injuries. It will pose a danger even more if the dog is delivered prematurely, had a miscarriage before or suffered a prolong bleeding after the pregnancy.

Research will be your best weapon. Every breeder must do research and gather as much information any way they can to learn more about breeding a specific dog. They must be knowledgeable about the gains and risks in order adapt to sudden changes. Find the time to gather more substantial data.

Skip a heating season between pregnancies. The female must wait for at least another season before becoming pregnant once again. The dog must recover their body needs first. Never rush or it will put more stress on their bodies and may result to complications.
