When a family first receives a puppy, they usually are very excited. But having a puppy is great, but along with that comes the responsibility of making sure your dog is properly trained. How to train a puppy is so important, that if not done right, leads to family strife, and sometimes the dog will get put into a shelter for adoption.

Patience and energy are two qualities a dog owner must have when training a puppy. If the dog owner does not learn how to train a puppy the right way, then your adjustment period will be longer and filled with stress, and they will develop some bad habits.

The first step in how to train a puppy is to teach them their daily routines. Some of these routines are showing them where their food and water bowls are, what bed they will be sleeping on, what time they will go to bed and when they will wake up.

Some other routines are where they will go potty and where the toys are kept. Remember that if you don't train your puppy the right way, then they will try to make you fit into their lifestyle, which will lead to behavior problems for you.

When starting out the proper way of how to train a puppy, you must teach them the words "No" and "Good" when they are a couple of months old. Use will need to say "No" in the same tone of voice every time. The word "Good" needs to be said in the same tone of voice every time, but not as stern as when saying "No" when they do something.

You should use body language when using the "No" and "Good" word training, so your dog will better understand the difference between those words. A bad method of training your puppy is using dog biscuits.

When using dog biscuits, the dog will first decide if they are hungry, and if they aren't, then they will not obey your command. You can give your puppy a treat after they have done what you have asked of them.

You will need to gain respect of your dog and let them know you are the leader of the household, otherwise your training will not be easy.
