Facts You Should Know About The Ragdolls By The TICA Ragdoll Breeders

By Shawn Hunter

While most people are dog lovers, there are others who love cats. They are domesticated animals. They can be kept as indoor pets and have been considered as human companions for years. Even the great Cleopatra had a pet cat.

One popular breed that is kept as a pet is the Ragdoll cat. This cute fellow is large, easy going, semi longhaired with charming blue eyes. Although most cats are not very affectionate to humans, this breed is very fond of humans. Just like the dogs, this feline is known to approach and greet you, follow you around the house, cuddle and sleep with you, and play fetch. No wonder why people love them. The TICA Ragdoll breeders have been producing high breeds for many years.

Ann Baker in Riverside, California has bred the Ragdoll feline in 1960. She chose three different felines, the Persian, Burmese, and Birman, to mate with Josephine, the original matron of the modern Ragdoll felines. This is the reason why they have a placid and relaxed nature.

It is known to get along with other animals and children. They are willing to be dressed and carried around. They do not resist when kids play with them. They do not cause damage in the house.

They are being correlated to dogs because of their chummy traits and intelligence. Once they reach full maturity, the female can reach up to 4 to 7 kilograms. The male can also weigh up to 9 kilograms. You can enjoy their company until 12 to fifteen years.

Their patterns make them different from each other. They have 4 patterns, the pointed, mitted, bicolor, and lynx pattern. If it has a pointed pattern, you will notice a dark coloring on their nose, paws, tails, and ears. The mitted is just the same with the pointed pattern, but you will see that the tail and abdomen are white, with a belly stripe from its chin to the genital area. You can recognize the bicolor pattern by its white abdomen and legs. What makes this pattern unique is the inverted V on its face. The lynx pattern shows dark lines all over its body. You can see that the coloring of the inside of its ears is white and its nose is brick colored.

You do not have to worry about taking care of them. You can comb their fur once to twice a week. It only needs a bath when it starts to smell bad. It is also important to brush and clean their teeth so that your pet will not be exposed to an oral problem, such as the periodontal disease.

However, you need to be careful in feeding your pet. Do not feed them with foods high in sodium because they have been known to die from kidney problems. They are also known to suffer hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a condition where the walls of the heart become thickened. It needs to have a regular checkup. It can suffer HCM as early as six months. If not treated immediately, it can die by age 3.

The color and pattern can dictate its price. If you are planning to purchase it as a pet, you have to wait for at least 12 weeks before the breeder can turn it over to you. By the 12th week, it has already stabilized its health.
