4 Ways To Keep Your Dog Happy & Healthy

By Garrett McMahan

We often think of cats when we think of the bad tempered and unhappy animals and not dogs because they are the contented creatures by nature. To keep your dog always the happiest furry animal in your place, the following are some tips for this, and this is to ensure that your dog is happy always.

1. Take Fido Here, There & Everywhere

If your dog is just allowed, he will stay always near you 24 hours a day and even seven days a week. Bring your dog along always, if possible because dogs usually don't want to be alone. One big reason why people leave dogs behind is due to bad behavior, and there are also places where dogs are not allowed. Invest in dog training DVDs if you want to bring your dog to many places.

Obedience training DVDs can make it is easy for you to teach your dog a variety of skills, such as dog leash training, learning not to jump on people, learning to stop barking on command, sitting, staying and many other basic skills. Once you have completed dog training, you will have a safer animal that is well behaved enough to take almost anywhere.

2. Dogs Need Exercise & Fun

Dogs need good levels of exercises and they also enjoy playing time, which can be daily. Every dog breed and also individual dogs usually have different energy levels. There are dogs who are contented with just daily walks or some play fetching rounds while others enjoy long walks or play sports like dog agility or some Frisbee plays. There are also dogs that enjoy games like tug games or play hide and seek. You need to provide them some play time and physical activities so that they will not get bored. Bored dogs usually get tense and can become destructive, especially if you have the dogs with very high energy levels.

3. Groomer Makes Pets Look & Feel Better

Grooming your dog can be a chore, but it is an important one and a well-groomed dog tends to be more comfortable. Dogs need a bath about once each month, perhaps more if they are often outside playing. Talk to your vet about the best type of shampoo for your dog. Most dogs also need to be brushed several times each week to keep their coats shiny and free from tangles and matting. Most dogs enjoy being brushed and it can be a great way for the two of you to bond. In addition, you also probably will want to keep your dog's toenails trimmed and you need to learn how to clean and care for your dog's ears.

4. Your Vet Is A Great Resource

It goes without saying that your dog needs to stay up-to-date on all of his or her vaccines, but dogs also need a yearly physical. During this visit, your veterinarian will assess their overall health and probably suggest taking some blood to check a variety of factors. These blood tests are important for older dogs, especially as they can show the first signs of many potential health issues. In addition, you also want to schedule a yearly teeth cleaning for your dog and perhaps twice yearly if needed.
